Betsy

I am a cradle Episcopalian and grew up attending the Episcopal church that 2 of my great grandfathers helped begin. I attended church and Sunday School regularly until I went to college and then Okinawa with my husband, Bert, for his military tour of duty. I went occasionally during that period of time until we came home to the States and settled in Sandy Springs. We had a new baby boy and knew we needed to begin to start “shopping” for an Episcopal church where we would feel at home.

We visited several churches and when we attended St. Martin’s we loved it and felt so welcomed by its members! Father Gable was truly one of the Godliest men I had ever known and we quickly became involved! I was a member of St. Margaret’s and Bert was on the Vestry. Our daughter was baptized in the church and both our son and daughter were confirmed and married at St. Martin’s!

Over the years I have been a member of St. Elizabeth’s and Daughters of the King, on the Vestry, and I was a volunteer at the Suther’s Center after I retired from teaching for 18 years until the COVID changed things.

St. Martin’s is my second family, and when I walk through its doors I feel a peace come over me as I look at the dear people in the pews and I take in the church’s beauty. I am grateful to be a monthly Intercessor or Lector because I can look out at all of you and feel blessed to be a part of our wonderful church family!

I have treasured our 49 years at St. Martin’s and pray that I will have many more here.
