My family and I started attending St. Martin’s shortly after the birth of my first child, Sophie, who is now 22. On our first visit, I spied the friendly face of Helen Ingebritsen who I had previously met in a La Leche League meeting. I remember feeling instantly at home and very welcomed. Helen and I remain fast friends and I’ve acquired many more through St. Martin’s. I have especially loved the opportunity to teach Sunday School and watch the youth of our church grow up over time. I think I’m now on my 15th year of teaching Sunday School and it’s been such an important part of my personal spiritual development. There is nothing quite like seeing God through the eyes of a child; I highly recommend it if you are looking for a way to enhance your own God connection.

Something else that really makes me feel God’s love is being out in nature. Some of my fondest St. Martin’s family memories were made at Kanuga where we have our annual retreat. To me Kanuga is the perfect union of church and nature and I so look forward to the day when we can return. I am an avid (my husband would say “hard-core”) gardener, a hiker, and most recently, a chicken keeper. I realize the photo that I’ve chosen to accompany this short little bio will probably get me branded forever as the crazy chicken lady and I’m okay with that. In it, I’m out in the garden with the chickens, dog, cat, and daughter, (the one taking the aforementioned photo), and that is pretty representative of my life as a human of St. Martin’s.
