Around the holidays I am always reminded of sitting in my nana’s kitchen watching her produce amazing treat after treat. From the beautiful cookies she made with her cookie press, to the chocolate covered peanuts my papa and I would eat by the handful, it was all delicious. As time went on I was no longer sitting and watching, but instead standing next to her and learning how to make them myself. And now this Christmas, I look forward to having our roles completely reversed as she sits in the kitchen and watches me make these treats for her. The experience of change is one that is especially prominent this year as we all adapt to the changes that this year has brought. But as I reflect on change through the lens of this holiday tradition, I am reminded that although change takes work (and sometimes a messy kitchen) it also cultivates new and beautiful traditions.
